Latina Air Force Veteran and Award-winning Bilingual Children’s Book Author of the Captain Mama Series,  Graciela Tiscareño-Sato, will be in Orlando as a Featured Author at the Women in Aviation International Conference March 5th-7th

March 4, 2020. Orlando, FL - The military veteran and author of the first-ever bilingual children’s books about women flying airplanes in our nation’s military has been selected as a featured author at the upcoming Women in Aviation International conference. The event will be held at the Disney Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando from March 5th – 7th.

Graciela Tiscareño-Sato has created a unique, bilingual children’s book series inspired by her decade of military aviation service in the U.S. Air Force. Good Night Captain Mama/Buenas Noches Capitán Mamá and Captain Mama's Surprise / La Sorpresa de Capitán Mamá are the first-ever bilingual children’s books about women flying airplanes in our nation’s military. The latter title was awarded the Gold Medal in the Children’s category last fall by the Military Writers Society of America.

The award-winning series has won six literary awards and the Captain Mama story of teamwork onboard a flying gas station (the Air Force’s KC-135R aerial refueling tanker) has reached tens of thousands of children in our nation’s schools and libraries. Ms. Tiscareño-Sato and illustrator Linda Lens, both based in Northern California, are currently developing the third book in the Captain Mama series.

“I’m thrilled and grateful to be one of the ten authors selected by the WAI staff to be featured at this year’s conference as we women who love airplanes gather,” said Ms. Tiscareño-Sato. “As I travel to our nation’s classrooms, in person and virtually, to teacher conferences and to corporate gatherings to share elements of my exciting military service with a team onboard a flying gas station, I love that my service story goes home with children and adults to enjoy, in my first language of Spanish and my learned language of English, in book form. The Captain Mama series celebrates women in aviation, the experiences of military-connected children, and the many benefits of multilingualism.”

WAI has published the conference book signing schedule here.

Graciela is also the author of a book of entrepreneurship case studies titled Latinnovating: Green American Jobs and the Latinos Creating Them. Her company’s mission at Gracefully Global Group is to showcase the positive contributions of Latino Americans in American society via award-winning literature and live presentations.
